AB - To use quartz sand for water glass production, processing of raw quartz
sand is necessary. The objectives of processing are: achieving the required
granulometric composition, increasing the content of SiO2 and reducing the content
of impurities that lower its quality. The most frequently used method is the attrition
cleaning in combination with gravity and magnetic concentration. In order to
eliminate quartz sand impurities to a greater extent, it is approached to different
methods of preparing mineral raw materials, which depends of the content and
type of impurities as well as on the way they appear (as individual grains, surface
coatings on quartz grains or as a form of intergrowth with quartz). The size
reduction processes are used when it comes to sandstone or large-grained sand,
whereby the size decreases up to 0.6 mm. Besides that, washing, attrition
scrubbing, grading and also gravity, flotation, and magnetic concentration are
used. Desliming, washing, and grading procedures are used almost always
because there is clay present in the quartz raw material as impurities. The
scrubbing procedure in attrition machines is used when the quartz surface is
kaolinized and limonitised. The flotation concentration is used when in raw material
beside the quartz, there is mica and feldspar, with preceding washing and grading
procedures to eliminate the clay component. That is so-called „reverse“ flotation
consisting of flotating mica and feldspar is applied, and the pure quartz remains in
the pulp. The magnetic separation process is used when in quartz raw material are
also magnetic impurities type Fe2O3 as carriers of total iron. Efficacy of the removal
of iron is expressed as a rate of reduction of Fe2O3. In the company „Kesogradnja
d.o.o.“ at Kozluk, near Zvornik (Republic of Srpska) from quartz sand deposit
„Bijela Stijena Skočić“, quartz sand for the production of water glass was obtained
by the procedures of washing, grinding, sizing and magnetic separation.

ekonomskog razvoja i nivoa edukacije stanovništa o značaju zdrave životne sredine i načinu njenog
očuvanja. Ubrzani tehnološki razvoj dovodi do poboljšanja kvaliteta života u svim sferama ljudske
fazi proizvodnje klinkera (proizvod procesa pečenja cementa prilikom spravljanja portland cementa).
upotrebu alternativnih materijala.

AB - The paper presents the process of quartz sand processing from the "Bijela Stijena" - Skocic deposit in the plant "Kesogradnja d.o.o." at Kozluk near Zvornik, Republic of Srpska. Bearing in mind the fact that this quartz sand is used for water glass production in the company "Birac" - Zvornik or "Alumina" Zvornik, it was necessary to meet the quality requirements prescribed by that industrial production. Thus, the required size was -0.4+0.05 mm and the Fe2O3 content was maximum of 0.04%. Based on the laboratory tests, a technological scheme for the quartz raw material valorization was conceived in the separation of the company "Kesogradnja d.o.o.". The obtained results showed that quartz sand for water glass size fraction -0.4+0.05 mm could be obtained in the plant. Also, by introducing a magnetic concentration after washing and grading, the Fe2O3 content was reduced from 0.131% as it is in the initial sample to 0.038% which meets the required conditions from the water glass producers.

Mineralogical composition of kaolinised granite is as follows: kaolinite, feldspar, quartz, and mica. After separating >0.630 mm, and LT 0.043 mm size class where kaolinite is concentrated, the rest is -0.630+0.043 mm class containing quartz, feldspar and mica. The mica concentrate was obtained by the flotation concentration, while feldspar and quartz were in the flotation underflow. According to the mineralogical analysis, the most abundant minerals are mica and chlorite/clays, while quartz and feldspar occur much less, and accessory minerals are represented in trace. The semi-quantitative mineralogical analysis obtained by the X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) method of the mica concentrate amount to: mica approximate to 55%, chlorite/clays approximate to 35%, quartz approximate to 5%, feldspars (plagioclase and K-feldspars combined) approximate to 5%.

AB - Quality of raw materials, including quartz sand and quartzite, varies from one deposit to another. Furthermore, the material quality determines in which industrial branches it can be used after certain preparation processes. Potential applications of quartz raw materials are: in the construction and refractory industry, ceramics and glass industry, then in metallurgy, foundry and also in production of water treatment filters. Geological investigations of the central Serbia region, in the Rekovac municipality, resulted in identification of occurrence of quartz sand ("Ursula") and quartzite ("Velika Krusevica"). Preliminary laboratory tests and characterization of the quartz sand size fraction -0.63+0.1 mm confirmed the possibility of applying this size fraction in the construction materials industry, while the quartzite can be used in refractory, glass and metallurgy industries. After determining the geological reserve of quartz sand "Ursula" and quartzite "Velika Krusevica", detailed investigations are required. Quality conditions from the aspect of chemical composition and physical properties of quartz sand and quartzite are mostly clearly defined by a special standard for this purpose. On the other hand, there are also application areas where standards does not exist, but users define their quality conditions. This example is with the application of quartz sand in the production of water glass. Chemical composition as well is not always the determining factor for the application of quartz raw material. For example, for quartz sand used for sandblasting, grain form is essential. From the economic analysis point of view, the prices of quartz raw materials vary depending on their chemical and physical properties. After all, what needs to be pointed out is the fact that these raw materials are very widespread in nature and that their exploitation is quite simple. After the raw material is excavated, it is stored and further sieved, washed, dried and processed according to customer requirements. All of these processes are cheaper than preparing, for example, limestone, and significaly cheaper than preparation of metal ores.

AB - Eksploatacija mineralnih sirovina i razvoj novih materijala nameću pitanje kako sačuvati životnu sredinu u eri velike ekspanzije novih tehnoloških procesa i kako smanjiti njihov negativni uticaj na prirodno okruženje.

AB - Kaolinisani granit čine kaolin, feldspat, kvarcni pesak i liskun.

AB - This study presents investigations of zeolitic tuff samples from the “Igroš--Vidojevići” deposit. The aim of the research was to determine the quality of samples taken from all deposit parts. Thus, samples were taken from the footwall (“Zeolit 1”), and four samples from the central deposit part (“Zeolit 2”, “Zeolit 3”, “Zeolit 4” and “Zeolit 5”). Characterization of the samples included chemical analysis, determination of the adsorption coefficient for methylene blue dye and cation-exchange capacity (CEC), X-ray powder diffraction analysis (XRPD), differential thermal and thermogravimetric analysis (DTA and TGA), and Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopic analysis (FTIR). Results have shown that the footwall consists mostly of clays, whereas zeolite minerals dominate in the rest of the deposit. XRD analysis of the “Zeolit 1” sample confirmed presence of smectite and kaolinite clays, while zeolite of analcime type and quartz are present as smaller fractions. Chemical composition analysis and determination of heavy metal contents showed a significant amount (7.58%) of Fe2 O3 in this sample. Therefore, further research can be pursued to find a method for removal of magnetic impurities in this deposit portion in order to utilize the clay fraction. On the other hand, according to XRD, FTIR, DTA/TGA and SEM/EDS analyses, samples which belong to the central deposit part (“Zeolit 2–5”) consist of clinoptilolite zeolite type, while clays are present in less than 10%. Thus, clays (smectites and kaolinite) accompanied with analcime and quartz are the most abundant footwall minerals while central deposit parts contain predominantly clinoptilolite accompanied with small amounts of clays. Mineragenetically, zeolites are most abundant in the “Zeolit 2” and “Zeolit 3” samples. The smallest value of CEC was determined for the “Zeolit 1” sample (46.98 mmol/100g). According to CEC values determined for “Zeolit 2” and “Zeolit 3” (141.99 and 121.01 mmol/100 g, respect-ively) these samples are of the best quality, and could be utilized as adsorbents of inorganic pollutants from contaminated waters. Moreover, they could be potentially used for removal of mycotoxins from cattle feed. “Zeolit 4” and “Zeolit 5” samples have shown slightly lower CEC values (89.48 and 83.75 mmol/100 g, respectively), which implies lower quality, and, therefore, could be used for soil quality improvement. Finally, determination of the external CEC has revealed a significant difference between “Zeolit 1” and “Zeolit 5” samples (17.9 and 5.31 mmol/100 g, respectively).

AB - This paper presents the results of tests carried out to determine how the dosage of bentonite added as binder, affects the properties of green pellets made of the limestone fines that originate from Lithothamnium limestone processing. Bentonite was added to limestone in different mass fractions (1, 2.5, 5 and 10%), whereas all the other parameters of the pelletizing process remained constant. The aim of pelletizing was to consolidate limestone fines and form mechanically stable pellets, provided that all the other properties of limestone remain unchanged. The pellets formed in this way were analysed applying DTA/TG analysis and FTIR and SEM analyses. The results showed uniform distribution of bentonite in the pellets, demonstrated that the pellets are compact and there is no formation of new compounds. The pellets were tested for resistance to impact, compressive strength and abrasion resistance. Also disintegration tests were performed to determine the time required for the pellet to disintegrate completely in water. These mechanical properties are essential for transport, handling, storage and general use of pellets. The values of most of the parameters established for pellets with 5% bentonite, meet the standards required for use in agriculture for liming acid soils, however their application is limited because their impact resistance is unsatisfactory and the time required for their complete disintegration in water is extremely short. It should be noted that further increase of bentonite content (over 10%) will not improve the quality of green pellets. In view of the results obtained, it is necessary to introduce drying into the pelletizing process in order to bring the green pellets into solid state.

AB - This review article surveys the subject of choice of high gradient magnetic separation processes for removal of Fe2O3 carriers from quartz raw material by electromagnetic separator with magnetic field intensity of 1.4 T. The review is based on current experience of authors during research phase, as well as project development phase and initial operation of facilities in several locations. Quartz mineral raw material in those locations appeared as sandstone or as loose material. In addition to that, quartz raw material from those locations contained various impurities, i.e. Fe2O3 carriers. The choice of this process for Fe2O3 removal depended on mineralogical composition, shape and the content of minerals, and Fe2O3 removal rate after this process was from 29 to 65%. Magnetic separation is magnetic induction of 1.4 T. It is applied on commercial assortments which were previously subjected to washing and classification processes. It is always the assortment which has to have the lowest Fe2O3 content. The choice of, "dry" or, "wet" magnetic separation (with water flush) also depends on the fact whether this desired assortment is intended for market as dry or wet, as well as on the composition of magnetic impurities. In most cases, the process applied is the wet one.

AB - In presented paper removal of lead ions from water solutions by the natural and Fe(III)-
modified zeolite encapsulated with alginate was investigated. Experiments were performed for
the initial lead concentrations in the range from 330 to 3100 mgPb(II)/dm3 and for three
temperatures: 25, 40 and 60oC. Results showed increase of adsorbed amount of lead with
increasing temperature and the initial lead concentrations. Much better removal of lead was
obtained with Fe(III)-modified zeolite encapsulated with alginate. The maximal removed
amounts of lead obtained for highest initial concentration were: 103, 113 and 124 mg/g for NZA
and 137, 153 and 173 mg/g for FeA at 30, 40 and 60oC, respectively. Obtained results were
fitted with Freundlich and Langmuir model, and for all temperatures the best fits were obtained
with Freundlich model (R2>0.97).

AB - This paper presents the investigations of possibility of calcite hydrophobisation. Two samples of calcite of different size classes from the site 'Dobar kamen', Arandjelovac, Serbia, were used in the experimental work. Modifying the surface of calcite was carried out by stearic acid with 'dry' method. Concentrations of stearic acid in the modifying method were as follows: 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, 0.9, 1, 2, 2.5, 3 and 4%. The results showed that a complete hydrophobicity (I0=99.9%) of calcite sample with the medium diameter (d50) 10.87 μm was achieved at concentration of stearic acid of 0.8%, while for the sample with the mean grain diameter (d50) of 29.14 μm, it was achieved at concentration of stearic acid of 3%. These results were confirmed by the microscopic analysis.

AB - Tests on quartz raw material from the deposit 'Bijela Stijena - Skočić' have included: grading, washing, grinding and magnetic separation. Test results have shown that the assortment of required sand quality can be obtained for water glass. The required quality condition for assortment of water glass, set by the company 'Alumina' Zvornik, is that Fe2O3 content does not exceed 0.04% and the grit of -0.4 + 0.05 mm. The results obtained after washing and grading starting sample used in these tests to a class of -0.4 + 0.05 mm showed that content of Fe2O3 from 0.131 % was reduced to 0.075%, and after treatment at high gradient electromagnetic separator at 0.038%. Microscopic analysis showed that the initial sample has: quartz, chalcedony, feldspar, mica, cherts, magnetite, limonite-goethite, shells, fossil remains, and that after the magnetic separation of magnetite sample was removed and most of the other carriers magnetic fraction. Based on this, a flow diagram is defined for procedure of obtaining the quartz sand for water glass on the basis of quartz raw materials from the deposit 'Bijela Stijena -Skočić'.

AB - This paper presents checking the formulation modeling process of industrial mill for different types of grinding bodies. It is known that changing the type of drilling bodies realizes various efficiency of grinding the mineral raw materials and/or different grinding fineness. This paper gives a hypothesis on bulk mass (density) of a mill batch as an influential factor to the size of specific grinding capacity of the specific mineral resources. The experiment was carried out in the industrial conditions of grinding when the Damkohler's criteria = was calculated [1]. Verification of this formulation was done in the industrial conditions, and testing results are present in this paper.

AB - In presented paper results of the removal of lead ions from water solutions by the natural zeolite (clinoptilllite) and application of such contaminated zeolite materials as a supplement for standard additions portland cement are showed. In this investigations, the natural zeolite (clinoptilollite) with particle size 100% 43 μm was used. The experiments of lead ions adsorption showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of the natural zeolite was 66 mg Pb 2+ /g. After adsorption experiments the saturated zeolite with lead ions was used as a supplement to portland cement. Investigations of the mechanical properties of the cement with the addition, natural zeolite and zeolite saturated with lead ions showed that this material can be used as a supplement for portland cement up to 30%.

AB - The results have shoun that the break force in the "wet" process increases with 1.51kN for PVC+C at 1.63 kN, in a sample of PVC+CS-3, which is a completely hydrophobized. In the "dry" process, the breaking force increases from 1.51kN in PVC+C to 1.55kN in PVC+CD-3. Breaking limit increases with degree of hydrophobization and the "wet" process from 36.72 MPa in PVC+C to38.17MPa in PVC+CS-1.5 and further to 39.89 MPa in a sample of PVC+CS-3. In the “dry” process, the breaking limit grows from 36.72 MPa for PVC+to 38.26MPa in a sample of PVC+CD-3 with coating degree of 99.90%. Strenght limit also changes with coating degree (hydrophobization), while the strength force remains almost unchanged in both procedures.

The results showed that the limestone from this deposit may be used for ODG as it meets the requirements of the required quality for use in these purposes. In fact, the raw materials meet the requirements for obtaining a powder (bulk) gypsum. Comparing the characteristics of the resulting range to be used as a feed additive ('fodder chalk') and the requirements to be met by this product, we can say: selective excavation and selecting a particular size class can get this range of products. The results of laboratory tests of briquettes obtained from lithothamnium limestone have shown that it is possible to obtain briquettes of a satisfactory quality. Values of parameters of the mechanical properties of briquettes increases with the share of bentonite as a binder in the samples. This increase in samples with mass proportion of binder to 5% is a linear growth, while for the samples containing more than 5% of binder that trend is minimal. Therefore, there is no need to produce briquettes with more than 5% of bentonite. Based on the results of laboratory tests, authors have proposed technological scheme by which is possible complete evaluation of the limestone deposit 'Dobrilovići'. With adaptation of existing technology line in the firm Department for Agriculture 'Loznica' Ltd. (which owns the mine limestone 'Dobrilovići') can be obtained three new product range.
