AB - The Cerovo-Cementacija 2 porphyry Cu deposit, hosted by hydrothermally altered hornblende andesite,
located into the Bor Metallogenic Zone, eastern Serbia, has been investigated. In this porphyry Cu
deposit, the following mineral parageneses have been established: i) pyrite-chalcopyrite with Mo; ii)
quartz-pyrite with Au; iii) digenite-chalcocite-covellite with Au; iv) chalcedony by sulfatization and
sulphation; v) malachite-azurite-limonite. Chalcopyrite is the major Cu mineral and it is the most
abundant compared to other established Cu-sulfide minerals. By the ascending and descending
hydrothermal processes along the Zone-1 (cementation zone), chalcopyrite was commonly transformed
into secondary Cu sulfide minerals (digenite, chalcocite, anilite, covellite, etc.), while those appearances
is less represented to the Zone-2 (transitional zone).

AB - Since about 50 years it is known that giant deposits of natural zeolites of pyroclastic origin are spread over all Miocene sediments of Serbia. Such rocks have often zeolite contents between 60 and 90%. The most significant Serbian deposits of natural zeolites are: Zlatokop, Igros, Beocin, Toponica, and Slanci. Based on obtained results of structural, chemical, physical, and thermal analyses, the investigated zeolite tuffs can be generally defined in two mineral series: clinoptilolite-Ca, and heulandite-Ca. The interest for these materials is in steady mass growth as they are of vital importance for Serbian economy. The oversights of perennial mineralogical research of Serbian giant deposits of natural zeolites were presented in this paper.

AB - The ion-exchange procedure is used for doping the Ba-hexacelsian structure with Ca2+ and Pb2+ cations. The hexacelsian doped with Ca2+ has a composition of Ba0.64Ca0.36Al2Si2O8, and hexacelsian doped with Pb2+ has a composition Ba0.9Pb0.1Al2Si2O8. The crystal structure of both doped hexacelsians was refined by Rietveld refinement procedure. The crystal structure of Ca-hexacelsian is refined in the space group P (3) over bar c1, and results indicate ordering distribution of Si and Al (unit cell parameters is a = 5.2995, c = 15.594 angstrom and agreement factors: R-exp = 15.3 R-p = 19.9, R-wp = 19.0, R-B = 15.0 R-F = 4.08). Structural model for Pb-hexacelsian samples is described in the space group P6(3)/mcm with disorder distribution Si/Al (unit cell parameter is a = 5.2973, c = 15.591 angstrom and agreement factors R-exp = 21.5 R-p = 21.5, R-wp = 19.0, R-B = 5.74 R-F = 4.08). The results of Rietveld refinements indicate that Ca2+ and Pb2+ cations are incorporated into hexacelsian structure in different position.

AB - Al2O3-YAG composite was obtained by sintering of porous Al2O3 preforms infiltrated with water solution of aluminium nitrate nonahydrate, Al(NO3)(3)center dot 9H(2)O and yttrium nitrate hexahydrate, Y(NO3)(3)center dot 6H(2)O. Al2O3 preforms with porosity varying from 26 to 50% were obtained after sintering at temperature ranging from 1100 to 1500 degrees C. Sintering of the infiltrated Al2O3 preforms led to formation of YAG particles due to reaction between Y2O3 and Al2O3 at high temperature. It was found that variation of porosity of alumina preforms and sintering temperature is an effective way to fabricate Al2O3-YAG composite with an unusual combination of properties. Open porosity was in the range 15-35%, specific surface was 0.6-6.1 m(2)/g, pore size was 150-900 nm whereas compressive strength was from 50 to 250 MPa. The effect of sintering temperature on YAG formation and phase composition were investigated using X-ray diffractometry whereas microstructure of the composite was analysed by scanning electron microscopy.

AB - The possibility to use natural zeolite - clinoptilolite as a host material for radioactive Cs immobilization has been investigated. Cs-exchanged form of clinoptilolite which was prepared by treatment of clinoptilolite powder with 0.25 M CsCl solution was compacted. Both, powder and powder compact of exchanged clinoptilolite were thermally treated at 1200 C-0. The XRPD analysis showed that Cs was successfully immobilized after heat treatment by formation of stable cesium dodecaoxo-alumopentasilicate in both, powder sample and compact. The newly formed compound showed satisfactory Cs ions retention during leaching test. The sintered compact showed somewhat better resistance to Cs leaching than the thermally treated powder. The compressive strength of sintered compact was close to 200 MPa which is more than enough for easy handling and safe storage.

AB - Natural clinoptilolite modified with a cationic surfactant stearyldimethylbenzylammonium chloride (SDBAC) was used as an adsorbent for the removal of pertechnetate from aqueous solutions. Adsorption studies were performed in a batch system. The effects of various experimental parameters (amount of surfactant loading, contact time, solution pH, competing anions) on the removal efficiency of TcO4 (-) were investigated. SDBAC-clinoptilolite with organo-bilayer was successfully used to remove TcO4 (-) from aqueous solutions in the pH range of 5.0-8.0. ReO4 (-) as an analogue of TcO4 (-) was used to model the isotherms. Adsorption capacity of the SDBAC-clinoptilolite and the mechanism of ReO4 (-) (TcO4 (-)) sorption were also determined.

AB - Mechanical activation of precursors has been used for the preparation of Cr-doped sphene ceramic pigments (CaTi1-yCrySiO5). Ceramic material has been prepared from a powder mixture of CaCO3, TiO2, SiO2 and Cr(NO3)center dot 9H(2)O using vibro-milling for homogenization and activation of precursors. The mechanochemical process initially yielded amorphous powders, which on further calcination, crystallized to yield Cr-doped sphene ceramic pigment. Phase evolution in CaTi1-yCrySiO5 composition with thermal treatment was investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). Texture properties and particle size distribution were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and laser diffraction, respectively. UV/Vis reflectance spectra are used to determinate the behavior of the chromium ion. The color efficiency of pigments was evaluated by colorimetric analysis (CIE L * a * b system). Photoluminescence measurements were also performed.
