AB - Forests in Europe are currently not endangered by soil erosion. However, this can change with climate change or with intensified forest management practices. Using a newly established network of plots in beech forests across Europe, the aims of this study were to (i) distinguish soil properties and erodibility indices in relation to bedrock, (ii) determine geochemical properties and organic carbon (C-org) influencing erodibility, and (iii) assess the effect of soil depth on erodibility indices. Seventy-six soil samples from 20 beech forests were collected in 11 countries to quantify soil properties influencing erodibility indices: clay ratio, modified clay ratio, sodium adsorption ratio, and oxides ratio. The results indicate that the dominant soil properties, determined by bedrock, that correlate with forest soil erodibility indices are C-org, pH, electrical conductivity, calcium and sodium ions concentrations, total water-soluble cations, and the percentage of sand. According to the tested indices, soil susceptibility to erosion follows the order granite > andesite > sandstone > quartzite > limestone. Deeper soil horizons on granite are more susceptible to erosion than surface horizons are, but this is not the case for soils on limestones. In conclusion, forest management should consider the predisposition of different soil types to erosion.

AB - Fluorapatite doped with rare-earth elements has a wide-range of biomedical applications. Here, a new type of fluorapatite nanocrystals doped with praseodymium (FAP-Pr) with excitation-emission profiles in visible part of the spectrum is fabricated. Energy levels of Pr3+ activator ion contain metastable multiples states that offer the possibility of efficient multicolor emission lines in FAP nanocrystals. Three types of FAP-Pr nanocrystals with 0.1%, 0.5% and 1% atomic percent of Pr3+ (along with the undoped FAP control sample) are studied. Their novel chemical production method is described, the FAP-Pr nanocrystals structure, biocompatibility and the suitability for cell imaging are analyzed. Physicochemical characterization confirms crystals down to nanometer size. In addition, quantum-chemical calculation predicts that Pr3+ ions are incorporated into the FAP crystal lattice at Ca2 (6 h) sites. In vitro viability results shows that FAP-Pr nanocrystals are nontoxic to live cells. Additionally, the cell uptake of the FAP-Pr nanocrystals is studied using fluorescence-based widefield and confocal microscopy. The nanocrystals show characteristic green emission at 545 nm (P-3(0)-> H-3(5) transition of Pr3+ ion) and orange emission at 600 nm (D-1(2)-> H-3(4)), which we use to discriminate from cell autofluorescence background. Orthogonal projections across 3D confocal stacks show that the nanocrystals are able to enter the cells positioning themselves within the cytoplasm. Overall, the new FAP-Pr nanocrystals are biocompatible and of the tested types, the 0.5% Pr3+ doped nanocrystals show the highest promise as a tracking nanoparticle probe for bioimaging applications.

taloženja upotrebom kalcijum-oksida u cilju uklanjanja koloidnih materija i teških metala. Većina
zagađujućih materija su organskog porekla i njihovo ukljanjanje vršiće se primenom naprednih
oksidacionih procesa korišćenjem ozona i ozona u kombinaciji sa ultrazvukom u cilju postizanja
kvaliteta vode koji odgovara zakonskoj regulativi. Proces prečišćavanja će se optimizovati u
odnosu na tehnološki postupak, koncentraciju, vreme tretmana i količinu primenjenog oksidacionog
sredstva. Stepen zagađenosti vode organskim jedinjenjima će se određivati na osnovu merenja
HPK, BPK i koncentracije teških metala (olovo, gvožđe, hrom, bakar, cink, aluminijum).
AB - Due to the development of industry and population growth during the in recent years,
there are problems with wastewater from production that needs to be addressed in an
environmentally and economical way. All wastewaters from industry, no matter how they are
created, contain harmful substances that may have some degree of toxicity, must be treated if their
quality does not meet the legal requirements. The purpose of wastewater treatment is to remove
harmful substances, thereby reducing its pollution level, and at the same time, it also has a certain
economic and environmental effect. Therefore, wastewater treatment was carried out in this work by precipitation using calcium oxide to remove colloidal substances and heavy metals. Most
pollutants are of organic origin and their removal will be carried in this work out using advanced
oxidation processes using ozone, and ozone in combination with ultrasound to achieve water
quality that complies with the law. The purification process will be optimized with respect to,
method, time and amount of oxidizing agent applied. The degree of pollution of water by organic
compounds will be determined on the basis of measurements of HPK, BOD and the concentration of
heavy metals (lead, ferrum, chromium, copper, zinc, aluminum).

AB - The Great War Island (GWI) is an area of importance for the protection of the environment, cultural and historical heritage of Belgrade, Serbia. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) this area belongs to the N category - Habitats and Other Regulated Areas. The main objectives of this paper are to evaluate the potential impacts of pollution on ecosystem services of the Great War Island and to explore different scenarios for future urban development of the Great War Island that will have implication for human well-being. The aims of this paper are set up based on the evaluation of ecosystem services of the Great War Island and assessment of the pollution status of the Great War Island. In order to evaluate pollution status of the GWI inorganic and organic composition of sediments were examined. Additionally, the content of microelements was determined in the leaves of the Salix alba L. Pollution indices indicate that all investigated sampling sites are polluted and correspond to high and very high degree of contamination. Cd and Cu show high to extremely high degree of contamination while Sb has extremely high degree of contamination. Content of As, Co, Cu, Ni and Zn in leaves of Salix alba L. is in sufficient to normal range, while content of Cd is between the sufficient and excessive values generalized for various species. Typical oil distributions of terpanes and steranes and values of the corresponding maturity parameters clearly indicated that the sediments of the GWI, in addition to native organic matter, contained oil pollutants of anthropogenic origin. GWI provides provisioning, regulating, supporting and cultural ecosystem services. In relation to ecosystem services two possible scenarios can be predicted: first - losing the status of a protected area due to urbanization; and the second - increasing the degree of protection by admission into international protection lists.

AB - In the present study we have analyzed effects of Ag+ ions doping on energetic profiles of nanophosphors materials based on fluorapatite crystal system. The UV radiation absorption and luminescence properties of monophase fluorapatite (FAP) and Ag+ doped fluorapatite (AgFAP) nanomaterials obtained by neutralization method were investigated using the photoluminescence spectrophotometry. The excitation-emission profiles of nanomaterials were analyzed statistically by MCR-ALS method and number of fluorophores was extracted. FAP lattice absorbed light at 350 nm in the UVA part of spectrum, and with increasing concentration of Ag+ ions new absorption maximum appeared at 270 nm in the UVC part. Fluorescence of FAP nanoparticles was in violet region of visible part of the spectrum, with a red shift to the green region when Ag+ was doped in lattice. MCR-ALS analyses of fluorescence spectra confirm formation of two maxima, at 484 and 505 nm, as a consequence of Ag+ ions doping in FAP lattice at Cal (4f) sites. The results of quantum chemical calculations showed that an Ag+ ion is stronger bonded to the binding site 1 (-1352.6 kcal/mol) than to the binding site 2 (-1249.0 kcal/mol). Considering that AgFAP1 nanopowder absorbs photons over all part of UV radiation spectrum, this material might be used as potential radiation protective nanomaterial.

AB - To assess metal pollution, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Co, As, Cd, and Hg contents in samples of the seagrass Posidonia oceanica and surface sediment, collected at eight locations along the Montenegrin coast, were determined. The metal pollution index (MPI) and metal enrichment factor (EF) were then calculated. MPI and EF were lower in sediment than in P. oceanica at the same locations. This was very evident for EF values of Hg and Cd. Based on the Pearson's correlations and EF values, it was possible to conclude that the last two metals' content in the seagrass did not originate from the crustal sources or natural weathering processes.

AB - Concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Co, As, Co, and Hg in the sea grass Posidonia oceanica and surface sediment samples were determined. Together with P. oceanica, surface sediment samples were collected at eight locations in the major demographic, tourist and port areas along the Montenegrin coast to assess metal pollution. The metal pollution index (MPI) and metal enrichment factor (EF) were calculated and used to evaluate the impact of heavy metals in the surface sediment on P. oceanica. The sediment MPI and EF values were lower than these values in P. oceanica at the same locations. Since the surface sediment contained lower mean concentrations of Zn, Ni, Pb, Cd and Hg, than the sea grass P. oceanic, we concluded that the sea grass absorbed some metals from the seawater column.

AB - Boka Kotorska Bay is on the UNESCO's World Heritage List. There are no published papers related to the surface sediment pollution of the Bay. For the first time, elements were measured in surface sediments at nine locations in the Bay by the energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) technique. Si, Fe, Ca, K, Ti, Mn, P, Ba, Cr, Sr, Zn, Rb, Ni, Cu, Pb, As, Sn, Sb, Hg and Cd were quantified in the surface sediments. Sediments were classified as non-polluted or polluted by counting the enrichment factor (EF), metal loading index (MLI) and geo-accumulation index (I-geo) based on the elemental background level of the analyzed elements in the literature, or by the Sediment Quality Guidelines (SQGs) of USEPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency). Based on USEPA's SQGs, the surface sediment in the entire Bay can be classified as heavily polluted by As and Cr, and non-polluted by Cd and Hg, and, related to the sites, the surface sediment at the Tivat-Arsenal site was heavily polluted and at the Orahovac site was not polluted at all. The PLI (pollution load index) values for the locations of Tivat-Arsenal and Orahovac are in agreement with the conclusion based on USEPA's SQGs. The results in this paper will establish an initial view of sediment pollution and the state of the Bay's environment.
