AB - Bioleaching is an environmentally-friendly approach for the extraction of useful metals from low-grade ores and secondary mineral materials.
The object of this paper was to examine the possibility of microbiological solubilisation of copper from ore dump by Acidithiobacillus sp. B2.
Leaching experiments were performed by the shake flask testing technique at 28 oC, during two-week period. The percentage of the copper leached at the end of this experiment was 31%.

AB - Food production generates significant amounts of waste, especially in fruits and vegetables
processing industries (FVPI), where biodegradable lignocellulosic waste (LCW) represents approx.
25-30% of processed raw materials. In most cases, this type of waste is landfilled, representing
unsustainable practices with significant environmental hazards. Biochar, a highly carbonaceous
organic material obtained from thermochemical conversion of LCW biomass, pose significant
positive characteristics with multifunctional purpose. Biochar application might remove emerging
contaminants from wastewater, and its application on soils improves soil properties such as fertility
leading to improved crop productivity, soil pH regulation and soil CEC improvement, as well as
microbial activities enhancement. In this paper, the characterization of biochar obtained via slow
pyrolysis of peach stone (PS) is done along with its possible application as a soil amendment. This
preliminary investigation revealed that the properties of the biochar produced from PS are in line with
those necessary to act as a suitable agent for soil amendment.

AB - This paper focuses on lignocellulosic waste biomass originating from food industry, which should find its further application in order to fulfill demands of circular economy. Therefore, here are presented some of the chemical and physical properties that affect combustion process, as well as thermochemical reaction kinetics for lignocellulosic biomass wastes. The biomass investigated was peach stone particles originating from food industry. The results have showed that peach stones can be characterized as good energy alternative renewable material, with properties that allow its safe thermochemical conversion. Kinetic analysis of this biomass was performed using Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) with a simple reaction model applied, namely n-th order reaction model. The obtained results have confirmed the complex nature of this material and the need for further modelling.

AB - Biosorption removes pollutants such as heavy metals onto a natural adsorbent, so it can be considered as a promising method of water purification. The objectives of this research were to examine the application of aquatic weed Myriophyllum spicatum immobilized in alginate beads – MsA for the removal of copper from aqueous solutions. Appield biosorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Experimental results were fitted by six isotherm models, and have showed that MsA holds great potential for copper removal, q = 1.307 mmol/ Results of TOC analyses showed that after Myriophyllum spicatum immobilization process , total organic carbon in MsA was more than four times less than with aquatic weed M. spicatum, 18.8 mg/L compared to 81.2 mg/L of TOC.
