AB - Lignite is the basic raw material used by thermal power plants in Serbia to
produce electricity. In the process of burning coal, ash appears as a secondary product for
17% (data from the Nikola Tesla Power Plant). Fly ash, which is an ultrafine ash content,
causes air, water, and soil pollution, and is the main cause of a significant increase in the
number of various diseases among the surrounding population. A chemical analysis of fly
ash samples from the Nikola Tesla thermal power plant in Obrenovac was performed, and
results were obtained that inevitably require a reaction in terms of eliminating the components found in this product. The presence of heavy metals was established: Zn, Cr, Cd, Sr, Pb, Co
and Ni. Despite the fact that these elements are difficult to dissolve in water, they led to
serious environmental pollution, which eventually led to very serious health complications,
primarily in the population living directly next to the thermal power plant. The air very easily
disperses this fly ash, and besides it pollutes water and soil, not only in the surroundings
but also on a larger surface of the land, the particles carried by the wind spread to areas
that are more distant. The toxicity of these heavy metals is particularly dangerous due to
their cumulative deposition in the human body, which is the last in the food chain, and is
in direct danger due to the presence of fly ash from the air, water and soil, through cultivated
agricultural products. This is a very complex problem, which is the subject of research
and finding solutions in many countries. At the same time, elemental sulfur appears as a
secondary product of oil refining. By applying sulfur in the process of homogenization and
agglomeration of ash in amounts from 15% to 22%, coating and increase of ultrafine ash
particles <63мm in size is achieved and their presence is reduced from 17.5% to 1%. The
product obtained in this way can easily and without additional investment be disposed
of in landfills without the possibility of polluting the environment. This would prevent and
significantly reduce environmental pollution, as well as further illness of the population due
to the influence of the presence of fly ash. It would also solve the problem of sulfur disposal
as a secondary product of oil refineries. The resulting agglomerate of ash and sulfur could
be further used in construction.

AB - Zeolite was discovered in 1756 by F. Axel Frederic Cronsted, a Swedish mineralogist . He named them after the Greek words “zein” and “lithos”, which means “boiling
stone”. Zeolites are crystalline, hydrated aluminosilicates of alkaline and alkaline earth cations.
They possess an infinite three-dimensional crystal structure. Zeolites are characterized by
the ability to lose or receive wate. Also, they exchange some of their constitutional cations
without any major structural changes [1]. The most important characteristics of natural
zeolite minerals that enable their wide application in various areas of economic activities
are: ability absorption , processes ionic changes and catalysis . Natural zeolites are one of the
most economically significant groups of mineral raw materials due to their origin, physical
and chemical properties, as well as structural characteristics. There are numerous fields of
application of natural zeolites in ecosystems: in the removal of organic sulfur bound to oils,
in air purification from SO 2 , CO 2 and nitrogen oxides. Zeolite is a material that, due
to its properties, is used for removing cesium and strontium from soil contaminated with
nuclear waste, in water purification, in the field of agriculture, veterinary medicine, as a
construction material, etc.
The deposits and occurrences of zeolitic tuffs in Serbia are related to Tertiary lacustrine
volcanic-sedimentary and sedimentary complexes. They are related to the effusive activities
of dacitic, dacito-andesitic and andesitic magmas. In this regard, the most important are:
the Vranje, Toplic, Kruševac, Krivoreč, Sokobanj, Bogovin, West Moravian and Ibar basins,
the eastern part of the Great Moravian Trench as well as the Fruška Gora area.

AB - The paper presents the analysis of mining waste, its division, as well as the
importance of proper waste management in order to protect the environment from all negative impacts. The aim of this research was to point out the importance of environmental
pollution with waste materials from mining. Compared to the amount of waste generated in
other industries, the waste generated in mining has the highest percentage of environmental
pollutants. There was a special focus on acidic mine waters as pollutants that represent one
of the greatest dangers to the environment. Accumulation of waste material starts already
from the first exploration works and the opening of the mine, also during the exploitation
and preparation of the mine ore, all until the closure of the mine. Depending on the phase
of exploitation, mining waste differs in terms of toxicity, chemical, mineralogical and granulometric composition, as well as aggregate state. Considering the very important aspect
of environmental pollution, it is necessary to point out all the risks of potential levels of
pollution with a clear indication of the measures that must be taken to prevent pollution.
The application of information technologies in mining provides the possibility of predicting
risks and taking appropriate measures. This approach makes a great contribution to the sustainability of applied technologies in mining. The contribution to sustainable development
is reflected in the principles of planned and controlled execution of mining activities in order
to preserve mineral resources for future generations, and at the same time preserve a healthy
environment. Solving the problem of waste generated during the exploitation and preparation of trench raw materials requires a multidisciplinary approach. Proper management of
mining waste requires cooperation and engagement of experts from various scientific fields.
Sharing knowledge and multidisciplinary conclusions are necessary both in cases of treating
waste with the appropriate procedure, as well as its permanent disposal and storage. Storage
facilities for this kind of waste should be built and protected to ensure long-term, and preferably permanent, protection of people and the environment. In order to achieve adequate
protection, the controls and regulations for the storage of mining waste are significantly
tightened. The complexity of mining waste management requires the involvement of the
wider social community, the adoption of rules and regulations framed by appropriate legal
acts that must be fulfilled in their full form.

AB - The paper presents the geological characteristics of the limestone of the "Dobrilovići" deposit and the characterization of the trench sample. The technological scheme of limestone preparation, which is used to obtain suitable sizes for use in agriculture, is presented in the paper. Chemical analysis showed the presence of CaCO3 above 80% and CaO above 44.80%. The content of trace metals is low: Cr 21 mg/kg, Pb 3 mg/kg, and Ni 7 mg/kg. The mean value of the loss of ignition is 39.40%, and the pH is 8.47. Based on the obtained results, it was concluded that the chemical and mineral composition of limestone meets the requirements necessary for the calcification of acidic soils. The results of the determination of the granulometric composition showed the dominant presence of large classes above 50 mm (68%). To obtain a class of 100% -2 mm that meets the requirements for application in the calcification of acidic soils, a technological scheme for the preparation of trench limestone is given, which includes crushing, grinding, and grading.

AB - Zeolites are a group of natural and synthetic inorganic compounds. They have specific physicochemical properties suitable for industrial application [1,2]. According to their origin, variety of chemical composition, structural characteristics and application, zeolites form a specific group of minerals within the tectosilicates. In sedimentary formations rich in zeolites, the most characteristic minerals that are present are: clinoptilolite/hailandite, chabazite, mordenite, erionite, phillipsite and analcime. The most widespread zeolite of sedimentary origin is represented by the HEU series (clinoptilolite-heylandite). Its general crystal chemical formula is (Na,K,Ca)6Al6Si30O72nH2O.. Based on chemical and X-ray powder diffraction analysis, it is not possible to separate clinoptilolite and hoylandite . This is due to their isostructural nature. To identify these two isostructural minerals, even today, the simplest so-called Mampton's test [3]. Mumpton [4]. The results of X-ray diffraction analysis of thermally treated clinoptilolitic tuffs from the Zlatokop and Beočin deposits will be presented in this paper. The interplane distance values will be shown in the characteristic temperature range from 400oC to 500oC (when the first polymorphic transition occurs). These values characterize the zeolitic tuffs of our deposits in a certain way.

AB - In this paper, the results of the modification of calcite with stearic acid using the wet method are presented. In the experiments, natural limestone with a high content of calcite (greater than 95 %) was used as the starting material. The calcite surface was modified with different amounts of stearic acid - 1, 2, 3 and 4 %. The products were haracterized by thermal analysis (DTA/TGA), polarization microscopy, IR analysis and by the evaluation of a floating test. The
results of the floating test showed that hydrophobicity of the calcite surface increased with increasing the amount of stearic acid on the calcite surface and that the hydrophobicity reached
over 99 % when the concentration of stearic acid was 2 %. Thermal analysis showed that at initial concentrations of stearic acid of 2 %, surfactant molecules are chemisorbed at calcite surface.

AB - Concrete is a material that has been used for centuries and is often modified using polymers. In the last fifty years, synthetic polymers have been used for the modification of concrete, but also for the production of concrete. In recent decades, sulfur concrete has been an interesting product that can be used mainly in low-rise construction due to its characteristics. In this work, we used the starting mixture for the preparation of sulfur concrete (sand, elemental sulfur with the addition of modified sulfur and fillers) heated to a temperature of 120 ºC to 170 ºC and homogenized. The results of previous research on the production of sulfur concrete showed that the density of the obtained product changes depending on the type as well as the amount of filler added to the basic mixture based on raw materials. Talc, microsilicon, plate alumina and fly ash were used as fillers. The amounts of fillers were 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, 7% and 10%.

otpada i u našoj zemlji.

AB - Deposits of zeolite tuffs, rich in minerals of the heylandite-clinoptilolite series, in Serbia are
spatially and genetically related to volcanogenic-sedimentary series of sedimentary basins and
were formed as a product of devitrification of volcanic glass. Zeolite minerals in sedimentary
rocks of Neogene age are found in association with volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks. The
lacustrine or marine environment had a great influence on the diagenesis of sediments and the
formation of clinoptilolite at the expense of volcanic glass. In this paper, a preliminary model of
the formation of zeolite deposits in the Tertiary basins of Serbia is presented, through the
processing of all elements of the genetic model.

AB - On the territory of Rekovac municipality, geological research has discovered clay deposit ""Oparić"". The sample was taken from the well core with 9 m depth, then stirred with water and sifted by wet process on a sieve with 0.063mm opening. It was obtained 71 % of reflections (class + 0.063 mm) and 29 % of sieves (class -0.063 mm). The chemical and X-ray analysis of the class -0.063mm was done. The results showed there is increased content of iron in the form of Fe2O3, which reduces the clay quality. Further research should focus on finding the iron removing possibility by magnetic concentration.

AB - Zeolites are a group of natural and artificial inorganic compounds, which have specific physicochemical properties appropriate for industrial application. These minerals make a specific group of alumosilicates within tectosilicates because of their origin, chemical compositions, structural characteristics and application. This paper presents the results of mineralogical and crystallographic examination of zeolite tuff samples from the Toponica deposit. The deposit of zeolite tuff ""Toponica"" is located in the extreme eastern part of Kosmet near Kosovska Kamenica. The immediate geological structure of the zeolite tuff deposit consists of the Lower Miocene (M) clayey sandstone, the horizon of the white zeolite tuff and the reclassified Miocene clays, clays and gravel. The basic mineral composition is the mineral clinoptilolite-Ca from the heylandite series.

AB - On the territory of Rekovac municipality, geological research has discovered clay deposit "Oparić". The sample was taken from the well core with 9m depth, then stirred with water and sifted by wet process on a sieve with 0,063mm opening. It was obtained 71% of reflections (class + 0,063mm) and 29% of sieves (class -0,063mm). The chemical and X-ray analysis of the class -0,063mm was done. The results showed there is increased content of iron in the form of Fe2O3, which reduces the clay quality. Further research should focus on finding the iron removing possibility by magnetic concentration.

AB - Data on thermally induced transformations of Mn exchanged zeolites LTA and FAU
topology are presented in this paper. Thermally induced phase transformation of Mn-
exchange zeolites are followed in the range from 700 to 1300 o C. Both frameworks collapse
into amorphous intermediate products after heating between 600 and 650 o C. Prolonged
heating of the intermediate product above 1100 °C results directly in formation of a disorder
Mn-anorthiteLTA and Mn-anorthiteFAU. The parameter of unit cell of Mn-anorthiteLTA and Mn-
anorthiteFAU, in temperature range between 700 and 1300 o C, was observed in space group C-
1. The phase conversions in the temperature range investigated were followed by thermal, X-
ray powder diffraction and FT-IR analyses.

AB - To use quartz sand for water glass production, processing of raw quartz
sand is necessary. The objectives of processing are: achieving the required
granulometric composition, increasing the content of SiO2 and reducing the content
of impurities that lower its quality. The most frequently used method is the attrition
cleaning in combination with gravity and magnetic concentration. In order to
eliminate quartz sand impurities to a greater extent, it is approached to different
methods of preparing mineral raw materials, which depends of the content and
type of impurities as well as on the way they appear (as individual grains, surface
coatings on quartz grains or as a form of intergrowth with quartz). The size
reduction processes are used when it comes to sandstone or large-grained sand,
whereby the size decreases up to 0.6 mm. Besides that, washing, attrition
scrubbing, grading and also gravity, flotation, and magnetic concentration are
used. Desliming, washing, and grading procedures are used almost always
because there is clay present in the quartz raw material as impurities. The
scrubbing procedure in attrition machines is used when the quartz surface is
kaolinized and limonitised. The flotation concentration is used when in raw material
beside the quartz, there is mica and feldspar, with preceding washing and grading
procedures to eliminate the clay component. That is so-called „reverse“ flotation
consisting of flotating mica and feldspar is applied, and the pure quartz remains in
the pulp. The magnetic separation process is used when in quartz raw material are
also magnetic impurities type Fe2O3 as carriers of total iron. Efficacy of the removal
of iron is expressed as a rate of reduction of Fe2O3. In the company „Kesogradnja
d.o.o.“ at Kozluk, near Zvornik (Republic of Srpska) from quartz sand deposit
„Bijela Stijena Skočić“, quartz sand for the production of water glass was obtained
by the procedures of washing, grinding, sizing and magnetic separation.

AB - The Cerovo-Cementacija 2 porphyry Cu deposit, hosted by hydrothermally altered hornblende andesite,
located into the Bor Metallogenic Zone, eastern Serbia, has been investigated. In this porphyry Cu
deposit, the following mineral parageneses have been established: i) pyrite-chalcopyrite with Mo; ii)
quartz-pyrite with Au; iii) digenite-chalcocite-covellite with Au; iv) chalcedony by sulfatization and
sulphation; v) malachite-azurite-limonite. Chalcopyrite is the major Cu mineral and it is the most
abundant compared to other established Cu-sulfide minerals. By the ascending and descending
hydrothermal processes along the Zone-1 (cementation zone), chalcopyrite was commonly transformed
into secondary Cu sulfide minerals (digenite, chalcocite, anilite, covellite, etc.), while those appearances
is less represented to the Zone-2 (transitional zone).

AB - Since about 50 years it is known that giant deposits of natural zeolites of pyroclastic origin are spread over all Miocene sediments of Serbia. Such rocks have often zeolite contents between 60 and 90%. The most significant Serbian deposits of natural zeolites are: Zlatokop, Igros, Beocin, Toponica, and Slanci. Based on obtained results of structural, chemical, physical, and thermal analyses, the investigated zeolite tuffs can be generally defined in two mineral series: clinoptilolite-Ca, and heulandite-Ca. The interest for these materials is in steady mass growth as they are of vital importance for Serbian economy. The oversights of perennial mineralogical research of Serbian giant deposits of natural zeolites were presented in this paper.
